Prosper Merimee

27/09/1803 - 22/09/1870Prosper Mérimée was a French writer and historian. He is best known for his novella 'Carmen', which became the basis for Bizet's opera Carmen. He was also a noted archaeologist and historian, and an important figure in the field of historic preservation.
